The History of Salsnes Filter Norway
In 1998-99 Salsnes Filter made its market breakthrough. The company can show excellent effects of treatment which complies with EU- and Norwegian requirements for primary treatment of discharge to less sensitive recipients of effluent over 10 000 PE. Salsnes Filter’s compact plants exhibit very good and stable treatment effect, as well as low running costs. By using Salsnes filter the municipalities are prepared for stricter requirements to discharge parameters and future upgrades for larger capacity or secondary/tertiary treatment.
The company has seen a formidable trend from 1999 to date, as Salsnes Filter takes a dominant share of the Norwegian municipal filter market. During this period significant resources were directed at quality assurance proving Salsnes filter’s highly effective treatment capacity and operational benefits. In 2002 an important milestone was reached for the colleagues at Salsnes Filter AS, when production moved to new industrial premises in Salsnes. In the same year NITO – The Norwegian Society of Engineers and Technologists – awards the company their company start up prize providing further recognition. At this time the company can show successful projects with industrial treatment processes. Salsnes filter removes particles from water in the paper industry, for breweries, fish hatcheries and land-based fish farms, fish net laundering facilities and for the wood processing and food industry.
The products history begins in 1991 with Audun Fosseng’s theory that it should be possible to develop a mechanical sieve capable of treating water for fish hatcheries, which the rapidly expanding fish farming industry depended on. The idea was supported by the national Development Fund (Innovation Norway), and the prototypes were developed with Sintefs assistance. The prototypes were installed to treat municipal wastewater effluent to sea. Until that time there was no fine mesh filter on the market that was reliably effective for this purpose.
There is great interest in Salsnes Filter all over the world. The company has an established dealer network in North America, Asia, Australia and Europe, as well as licensed production in South Africa. Salsnes filter is distributed internationally as an effective treatment solution for industrial applications, for primary treatment and as an alternative to traditional primary settling stage in high-grade treatment plant.
